The client came via a good friend who was struggling to find building services and a kitchen designer that could offer something just that little bit different and in line with her contemporary preferences well as hitting the right budget and on time, this being the most important having already been let down on all accounts by three companies.
It was becoming a real issue, first they found the kitchen at the right price, but then only to find the builder was way over budget. Back to the drawing board, start again only to get the reverse of the previous situation, this was problem that continued until we came along with our ‘total service’ and turnkey operation.
We met with client and I suggested we handle the complete project allowing the client an opportunity to deal with only one contractor who was able to offer a big saving on their allocated budget by combining the building services and bespoke kitchen to one supplier who was able to discount the final cost as they now had the benefit of utilising all their experience and resources to better effect.
Next was the timescale, we was informed that the completion date was to be 12 weeks from ‘now’ as her daughter was getting married soon there after and the reception was to be held at their home!
After the laughter had stopped, I claimed to capable of carrying that out on time and to budget. The client, I must say was slightly sceptical and told me to be serious and with nothing to lose (her words), said let’s go for it, that started the Kingham construction ‘process’!
Loving the challenge and wanting to show the world what we was truly capable of, this project was something I had been looking to get my teeth into for quite a while.
Throwing out all the usual sources of influence, I started with a blank canvas and a notion of what the client/friend’s desires would be founded on. Sitting them down and delving deep into their inner most feelings, the creative juices started to flow and the semblance of a brief was secured.
The starting point was a sleek, modern minimalistic extension incorporating natural material finishes, a bit of a contrast in style and concept, also no easy amalgamation but a challenge is a challenge.
With our ‘Total Service’ in motion, We was able to start to work the very best tradesmen who have personally been vetted by us for theirs (and yours) surety, the requirements were to include gas safe plumbing and heating engineers, NVQ Qualified & Approved Electrical Contractors, Joinery and carpentry services, Plasterers, painters and decorators all supported by our database of specialist craftsman capable of carrying out even the most demanding and skilled tasks.
To keep this team and task in line with expectations, A dedicated project manager was appointed as their main point of contact at all times, this helps should they at any time want to discuss whatever matters that might need to be addressed. They had their mobile and within reason, did their very best to make themselves always available. Supporting the project management, a dedicated construction and site manager was added, This being the main man on the ground, what this man doesn’t know isn’t worth knowing, his vast experience in all building matters who also happens to be very hands on person was invaluable to the smooth running and satisfactorily completed project.
Next was the luxury bespoke modern and contemporary style designer kitchen, not our usual signature handmade, painted bespoke shaker kitchen cabinetry, but still a beauty we took great pride in designing and creating.
Working with an Italian company who had just started to import some very cool materials with a fantastic organic surface, it was the perfect source for this kitchen.
Deciding to use the stunning boards from Italy, we settled on half of the cabinets have a leather textured effect with stainless steel bar handles, this run has two integrated ovens and with brushed stainless steel French door fridge freezer. The other half of the kitchen were to have sprayed handleless doors.
The plinths and end panels were finished in a linen effect and the kicker plate on the island a rusted iron plate.
Very earthy, very natural, a bit industrial but altogether a glorious look that the client loved.
The quartz countertops were the very latest from Caesarstone and the toughest, most hygienic the market has to offer and featured an inset sink and gas hob.
The modern wood effect breakfast bar is set above the stone top island.
At my suggestion, the client was happy to accept that we future proofed the room with the very latest technology. Full LED lighting system was built into the rooms, the bespoke kitchen then had incorporated a pull out socket with USB ports, for entertainment, a bluetooth built in sound system (runs from your phone) and to keep the kit running a cordless Aircharge phone charger. There is also the latest LED under cabinet lighting all the way around the kitchen.
When completed, the client was so in love with my creation she cried, I almost joined in!
